A Short Statement on Fulford - Ted Bowland

A SHORT STATEMENT

(RE: Fulford Village Study Group Discussion)

Infrastructure - Heritage Designation

Fulford - Different, eclectic in characters and buildings. It’s a little spot that hasn’t been

concerned with keeping up, jumping on every opportunity to grow/develop, get bigger,

better, newer etc.

I do think the core, the commercial area should grow. The loss of one or two business

could have a devastating affect on the village.

B C Ferries

The spurts of people and activity to and from the ferry terminal, 8 times a day, is unique

and a great pulse of energy rather then a constant flow allowing time to talk and connect

to people, proprietors of the local businesses, to neighbours and tourists. I hope it stays

just where it is just gets improved upon.

We definitely need to help BCF create remote or larger terminal parking.

Their water lot is very encroaching in our little village harbour and if there were

opportunity to open that up when terminal enhancement are considered I think that would

be great.

Infrastructure - Housing

I’ve walk into the village every day for the last year to stop, talk, have a coffee and enjoy.

I have noticed I enjoy strange things - ditches and shoulders/pathways rather then curbs

and sidewalks, that the village isn’t perfect or manicured, that it seems that it has grown

out of less control and little planning, that it is not lit up bright with street lights. Its

quaintness, charm and beauty come from large lots, single family houses with sheds,

garages and gardens.

I’m not sure Fulford village has to grown and changed in the direction and certainly not

at the pace of the rest of the country or this island. We can continue to be distinctive and

unique. Low density minimal infrastructure.

Fulford is (for me)

Simple

Quaint

Peaceful

Slow

Quiet

and that definitely makes it different and in my opinion-place and time, a better place.
