Priorities for Protecting & Preserving Fulford - Martyn Day

In response to the groups request to  all those who have shown an interest in the village to provide their own vision statement my own personal feeling remains that to avoid the destruction of the village as we know it infrastructure problems must be solved and firm commitment from all stake holders in place before any expansion.

1. Resolution of BC Ferry Terminal "problems" and BC Highways " inaction".

NB We must respond to David Hahn's statement that " BC Ferries do not know what the community wants" . Consultation should be taking place now not in 2009/2010.

Expansion of the Fulford terminal has been included in BC Ferries long term capital planning program, the question is when?

BC Highways should fix existing problems: potholes, signage, and drainage now. Their excuse that they can't fix things permanently because it would interfere with the operation of the ferry is patently not acceptable, other BC Highways projects have been completed on a 10pm. to 6am. shift.

2.Ecology

A base line study of the Fulford Harbour eco-system is an essential pre-requisite of any future plans for Fulford including the expansion of the terminal.

Does the whole village need or is it just the commercial sector that needs a central "state of the art" sewage system, are the large majority of existing residential septic fields adequate ?

If we can resolve our current infrastructure problems I believe that Fulford village can expand and grow in a way that protects our quality of life and to the benefit of all  residents.

Please post all of the above on the Blog if you feel this is appropriate.

Regards Martyn
